Handy dad builds jaw-dropping playhouse for his girls

This backyard project blew out into a lavish labour of love - and he’s not even finished!

When father-of-two, Adam Boyd, 39, wrapped up a construction job he was left scratching his head at what to do with some leftover roof trusses and credit at a lumber yard.

With two little girls, Avery, five, and Violet, two, to keep entertained he figured knocking together a cute cubby house might be just the ticket.

What no one expected was that the cute project in his Michigan backyard for daughters would soon become a lavish two-story mansion, complete with swings, a climbing wall, and its very own slide.

"It snowballed into what it is," the handy dad told TODAY.

"As I was building and building, I just kept on thinking about my girls, and wanting them to be proud of something I built."

After getting help putting up the shell of the house with his colleagues, Boyd says most of the rest of it he did himself. With a little help from his oldest daughter.

"She helped paint and do some sanding," he said.

Adam painted the walls Avery's favourite shade of pink, and violet, for his toddler, Violet.

The house has become much more for the family than a simple place for the girls to get out of their hair.

"If the girls are out there, we're out there, too," said Boyd, explaining that on any given day the building could be a house, tea shop, or even a restaurant.

"Avery will get out a reading book and that's the menu, and my wife will order a pizza, and Violet will order a burger and fries all the time."

"I figured people would think it's way too over-the-top, but I'm getting a lot of positive feedback," he said.

"It was very rewarding for me."

The amazing response has inspired him to create a construction company specialising in extravagant cubbies - Spoiled Rotten Homes.

Despite having everything one could possibly want in a playhouse, it sounds like Boyd hasn’t quite met his client’s high-standards - and will soon be installing a zip line for Avery.

"That's been her number one goal since we started," he laughed.
